This year in the writing center I have had the privilege of working with people that I have come to greatly admire, our seniors. Not only are they funny and jubilant people, but they have also helped me in one way or another over the course of this year. Whether it be imparting their wisdom about conferencing and working with writers in the writing center, or just a fun and generic Q&A session that we had in some of the shifts that we worked together.
As much as we would like to keep them around, our Coe Writing Center Seniors will be off to bigger and better things after this year. Ranging from applying and attending grad or medical school to hopefully landing a job as an editor at a publishing house cross-country. Whatever they are planning to do, we wish them well, and know that they will all go on to do great things. With that, let's meet some of our seniors!
Emerson Porter
First up is Emerson. She is a triple major in English, creative writing, and philosophy and has been a part the writing center for all four of her years here at Coe. When asked about her favorite memory from the writing center, she responded her freshman-year barbecue because of the people she met and the relationships that she made and still maintains to this day. After graduation Emerson plans to pursue a degree in the University of Iowa's Masters of Library Information Science program with the intent of being a librarian; though she said that the end goal is to be a professor. Her favorite whiteboard question was, "what is your 50:50 animal?" Meaning what animal could you beat in a fight without weapons. She answered the question with a baby giraffe, but was soon corrected that she would lose that fight.

Avalynn Morse
Our next senior is Avalynn. She is majoring in biology and is also in her fourth year here at the writing center. Her favorite whiteboard question was, "what is the strongest animal you could beat in a fight?" She could not remember her answer but it sparked debate in the writing center about the question and also some people's answer to the question.
After graduation she plans to take a year off to boost her resume. Then she plans to apply to medical school and eventually become an ER physician. Her favorite writing center memory is sitting in a circle on the floor her sophomore year and talking with past consultants about their "relationship struggles."
Angie Guevara
This is Angie. She is in her fourth year at the writing center while also pursuing a triple major in biology, molecular biology, and neuroscience. Her favorite memory is living with Brittany, a fellow consultant, and also adopting her cat, Pepper. Her favorite whiteboard question was " if you were a drink, what would you be?" She replied with a Starbucks strawberry acai refresher with light peach juice.
After graduation she is planning to attend a neuroscience master's program, for which she is currently applying. Then she would like to attend medical school with the intent of eventually becoming a neurologist.
Kylie Hoy
Last, but certainly not least, we have Kylie. She is a third-year consultant, recruited sophomore year, and is majoring in English and business administration. After graduation she plans to go to the University of Denver's Publishing Institute to earn her certification in book publishing. When she gets her certification she hopes to land a job at a publishing house in either Denver or New York.
Her favorite whiteboard question was "Are there more wheels or doors in the world?" Her answer was wheels. And lastly, her favorite memory was the 2023 fall retreat where they spoke about the effect that chatGPT had on school and then proceeded to use it to write an essay like a frat boy.
Thank you seniors for spending your college careers with us here at the Coe College Writing Center. Going forward we wish you the best and hope that you can take the friends and memories that you made here with you into your promising futures!
